At Motherly Heart Foundation, we believe that empowering young mothers with practical skills is a step towards breaking the cycle of poverty and restoring dignity. One of our recent success stories is the impact of our Reusable Sanitary Pad Training Program for teen mothers in the community. 

In many underserved communities, access to menstrual products remains a challenge, forcing young girls to resort to unhygienic methods during their periods. This not only affects their health but also their confidence and participation in daily activities. Seeing this gap, Motherly Heart Foundation organized a hands-on training session on how to make reusable sanitary pads — a sustainable solution that promotes both hygiene and economic empowerment.

Among the participants was Amina, a 17-year-old single mother who dropped out of school due to an unplanned pregnancy. Like many others, Amina struggled to afford sanitary pads, often having to choose between buying diapers for her baby or menstrual products for herself. During the training, she learned how to sew reusable pads using locally available materials such as cotton fabric, waterproof lining, and simple sewing kits.

After the training, Amina not only started making reusable pads for her personal use but also began producing extra pads to sell to women in her neighborhood. Within a few months, she started earning an income that helped her support her child and save for her own return to school.

“This training has changed my life in ways I never imagined. I no longer have to worry about buying pads every month, and I can now make money to take care of my baby,” Amina shared with tears of gratitude.
