Health is essential for a productive society. Uganda faces challenges such as maternal and child health issues, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and the impact of diseases like malaria and HIV/AIDS. We focus on health education, access to services, and community health initiatives to improve the overall well-being of our communities. Health: The Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (UDHS) indicates that maternal mortality remains high, with a ratio of 336 per 100,000 live births. Strengthening maternal healthcare services and education on family planning are critical areas of focus.
At Motherly heart foundation we support schools through Menstrual hygiene sensitization through having access to menstrual products like sanitary pads, tampons, menstrual cups, period under wears, then privacy to change them and facilities to dispose them off, and also breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation. We also train teachers and school staff to provide support hence creating a supportive environment for girls. These initiatives can help girls attend school and perform to their full ability.
Motherly heart foundation raises awareness of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in schools and the community at large. Close to 95% of girls and women pokot and Sebei community have undergone FGM, which is harmful to their bodies. Therefore we engage the community to change their mindset through teachings about the dangers of harmful cultural practices like FGM. We also support dialogue with the community elders who are gatekeepers of the traditions and social norms.
